  • What: The authors show via simulation that even a linear system with many processes can generate a covariance matrix with trait-like properties. The aim of this paper is to demonstrate the theoretical possibility that a model positing the existence of such traits could fit well even if those traits do not exist and to begin to probe the implications of this possibility for theories and models of development.
