NKG2A expression can be detected in cytotoxic lymphocytes, including most NK cells and a subset of CD8+ T_cells. Phosphorylated ITIMs are responsible for recruiting and activating intracellular phosphatase SHP-1 as well as SHP-2, thus suppressing the activation signals generated by activating receptors such as T_cell receptor (TCR) and NKG2D.
