SUMMARY

    Apart from Africa, Asia has a high rate of child marriage, with around 46 percent of women aged 20-24 in South Asia marrying before the age of 18. The major drivers of child marriage have been conceptualized as follows: poverty and economic factors; lack of opportunity for girls beyond marriage; fear of pregnancy/girls` sexuality; social norms; and a lack of agencies among girls themselves.
