SUMMARY
Midbrain and cortical recordings in non-human species lend support to a cross-correlation mechanism comparing auditory signals across the ears (Palmer and Shackleton, 2002; Lane and Delgutte, 2005; Gilbert et_al, 2015). In contrast, human behavior appears to be equally well, if not better, described by a noise-cancelation scheme (Durlach, 1963; Breebaart et_al, 2001a; Culling, 2007).
