SUMMARY
The term neuroinflammation broadly identifies the response of the central nervous system (CNS) against diseases or injuries. During the inflammation process, the whole ECS is upregulated to counteract the massive release of toxic mediators from microglia and consequently protect the cells from damage, suggesting that the modulation of the ECS represents a valid therapeutic strategy against neuroinflammation. The use of compounds able to efficiently and selectively inhibit MGL, the main responsible for 2-AG hydrolysis in_vivo, may be considered as a valid therapeutic option.
