SUMMARY
This review gives the highlights of in_vitro and in_vivo studies of the combination of natural products, especially plants (extracts/essential oils and their individual bioactive components). In spite of the fact that in_vivo studies are more expensive and more difficult to control, in many scientific articles, both, in_vitro and in_vivo experiments are performed. The experimental design was made by combinations of in_vitro (microdilution and biofilm assays) and in_vivo tests (mouse macrophages, reactive oxygen species (ROS) assays). Combined in_vitro and in_vivo results suggested that flavonoids and polyphenolic compounds found in food may have protective activity . . .
