• how: The authors identified and characterised the enzyme responsible for extracellular DNase activity of S. gordonii. To determine the preferred metal co-factors for SsnA the enzymatic activity of SsnA was tested in the presence of Mn2+ Ca2+ Mg2+ or Zn2+ (Fig 5b).
