“killing two birds with one stone” – a qualitative study on women’s perspectives on the dual prevention pill in johannesburg, south africa

HIGHLIGHTS

  • What: In an ancillary study to the ECHO trial conducted in South Africa, similar discontinuation patterns were observed; although fewer than fifty percent discontinued PrEP use in this study, the primary reason for discontinuation was side effects . Data from the DPP formative research study align with previous PrEP studies, in which participants are concerned about side effects that affect their daily lives, as well as more serious side effects that are rarer or may happen in the future. This work provides another potential means to address healthcare providers by providing training targeted at healthcare provider needs.
