SUMMARY
The indications for the Hartmann operation, a true lifesaving surgical operation, are moderately altered biological status of 2 of 19 the patient, peritoneal sepsis, intestinal occlusion and fragile intestinal wall, usually due to rectosigmoid neoplasia or diverticulitis. The disadvantage of the Hartmann operation is the high percentage of failure of colostomy reversal following the Hartmann Procedure (Hartmann II) of 40%, as well as the high percentage of morbidity (34%) after Hartmann II.
