Although previous reviews separately considered the use of lithium in paediatric age (Duffy et_al 2018; Amerio et_al 2018), during the peripartum period (Wesseloo et_al 2017) and in geriatric populations (Cooper et_al 2011), no study to date has synthesised the evidence on lithium efficacy and safety in these three special clinical conditions.
