Non-bilayer lipids or conical lipids such as phosphatidylethanolamine (PE; C0 and amp;lt; 0) and lysolipids (lysoPC; C0 > 0) form highly curved lipid structures such as HII phase (PE) or micelles. PE accounts for approximately 25% of all membrane lipids that significantly affect the mechanical properties of membranes. Maintaining the flatness of the lipid monolayer containing conical lipids leads to the induction of the stored elastic curvature stress (SCES) in the bilayer membrane.
