Copyright. The recent transplantation of a pig heart into a patient in Baltimore provided evidence for the transmission of a pig virus to a human recipient. Screening for PERV in cells and tissues automatically also screens for microchimerism. PERV is approximately integrated into the genome of a pig cell 60 times, and therefore, screening for PERV should be 60 . . .
