SUMMARY
Currently, there is a move toward multiple micronutrient supplementation in pregnant women to reduce adverse pregnancy outcomes in these parts of the world. While there is ample evidence of the benefits of maternal micronutrient supplementation on pregnancy outcomes, few studies have examined the effect of these supplements on micronutrient status among women and children. There is growing scientific consensus that multiple micronutrient supplements containing iron and folic acid are superior to iron and folic acid supplementation alone.
