SUMMARY

    The current data proved the presence of Neanderthals in the whole Caucasus area located at the gateway of Europe and in Central Asia and Siberian Altai, as the eastern-most yetknown territory of this species (Fig 1). Palaeolithic cultural varieties recognised in this area divided the Caucasus into at least two biogeographical and cultural groups of northern (Micoquian) and southern Caucasus (Mousterian) which fits with the geographical division of the mountains into Greater and Lesser Caucasus. The Lesser Caucasus is considered as part of the Eastern Mediterranean-Black Sea-Caspian-Corridor for Pleistocene hominin . . .
