Modelling the effectiveness of antiviral treatment strategies to prevent household transmission of acute respiratory viruses

HIGHLIGHTS

  • What: The authors develop a multi-scale model integrating both the evolution of viral load within infected individuals and the risk of virus transmission. By factoring in the relative role of the epidemiological, clinical, pharmacological, virological and immunological parameters and by using the model to simulate thousands of households, the authors evaluate the impact of antiviral treatment under different prescription scenarios/strategies to mitigate acute respiratory virus transmission in households. Next, the authors evaluate the impact of antiviral treatment on household transmission.
  • Who: Hind Zaaraoui and collaborators from the pharmacoepidemiology research team, Montigny-Le-Bretonneux . . .
