Modelling the impact of past and future land-use changes on land cover degradation at territorial level in eastern dr congo

HIGHLIGHTS

  • What: LULC change has a direct impact on global biodiversity, contributes to climate change, and is the primary reason behind soil degradation. In line with the above background, this study aims to model the impact of the spatio-temporal dynamics of LULC changes on land cover degradation at the territorial level in Eastern DR Congo. The authors evaluated both biophysical and socio-economic factors driving the degradation of land cover, as natural and anthropogenic influences can impact land conditions. The study shows that the encroachment of wetlands is likely to continue in the future .
