    The majority of preterm neonates born and amp;lt; 32 weeks of gestation requires respiratory support. The authors introduced the SAS to the nursing routine for all infants with NIV to standardize quantification of respiratory distress symptoms with the aim of providing a more objective estimate of the actual work of breathing and to serve as decision aid for the healthcare team during NIV weaning. The authors hypothesized that including the SAS into the weaning process would lead to more stringent weaning and thereby could possibly reduce NIV duration. The results of the study . . .
