HIGHLIGHTS
- What: In this study, the synthetic wastewaters were designed from different sources which were representative from petroleum refinery effluent (containing glucose and low-level phenol), molasses wastewater (mainly glucose available), and agro-industrial wastewater (no organic matter) . The authors demonstrated that the periods of remediation leading to nutrient depletion might impact the lipid accumulation in Chlorella cells. This study provides the biorefinery approach with dual benefit of using microalga for wastewater bioremediation and production of H2 by cyanobacterium utilizing the spent wastewater.
