There are many algorithms and methodologies which have been used in previous studies for the examination of cyclones, including the identification of cyclone centers and the associated tracks. Blender et_al developed a cyclone detection and tracking algorithm to identify the cyclone track regimes over the North Atlantic by using 6-hourly data of geopotential height at 1000 hPa (z1000) from the ECMWF database with a spatial resolution of 1.1° × 1.1°, for the 1990-1994 winters.
