HIGHLIGHTS
- What: The authors provide a discussion on existing methods and recommendations when evaluating the quality of synthetic longitudinal EHRs. The authors focus on longitudinal EHRs: a combination of static patient attributes and varying-length sequential health measurements, of mixed numerical and categorical data types. This is also the problem this research focuses on, namely providing recommendations on evaluation metrics suitable for longitudinal synthetic data, whilst extensively discussing their strengths and weaknesses. This way, the authors aim to provide guidance for researchers interested in employing synthetic longitudinal EHRs.
