SUMMARY
Long-chain polyunsaturated_fatty_acids (LC-PUFAs) are of high significance in healthy state maintenance and the reproduction success of virtually all vertebrates. In fast developing tissues in the early stages of life, the demand on LC-PUFAs is especially high; 2 of 13 correspondingly, the expression from genes encoding desaturases and some other genes of the LC-PUFA biosynthetic pathway is high. In the first and rate-limiting_step, FADS2 converts C18:2 ∆9,12 (LA) and the C18:3 ∆9,12,15 (ALA) into C18:3 ∆6,9,12 (γ-linoleic acid, GLA) and C18:4 . . .
