PATZ1 (POZ/BTB and AT-hook-containing Zinc finger protein 1), also known as MAZR (MAZ Related factor), ZSG (Zinc finger Sarcoma Gene), or ZNF278 (Zinc finger protein 278), is an architectural transcription factor that regulates gene_expression in a cell context-dependent manner by binding to gene promoter regions either directly, recognizing specific consensus_sequences, or indirectly through its interaction with other proteins. PATZ1 expression is strongly related to cancer signatures and cellular proliferation, as recently assessed by PATZ1 ChIP-seq and gene_expression microarray analyses.
