    Since adult neurons progressively lose their endogenous cholesterol synthesis capacity and do not contribute anymore to the overall cholesterol synthesis in the brain, the internalization of exogenous cholesterol from other cells, mainly astrocytes, remains their main source of cholesterol supply.
