    When screening for genetic variability, the identification of leaves by a unique timeconsistent number (the rank of emergence, or leaf rank) is essential to compare the shoot organs occupying similar developmental position (e_g juvenile versus adult leaves ­[17]) between different plants, or to quantify the development using leaf stage. While a few studies have developed leaf tracking methods on 3D reconstructions (e_g cotton ­[25], cucumber ­[26], tomato and maize, most of them have only been validated on limited datasets that may not reflect actual HTP conditions (thousands of plants, large genetic diversity and growing . . .
