The authors investigated the plasma levels of two androgens, testosterone and androstenedione, in zoo-housed bonobos and chimpanzees. Like in spotted hyenas , and ring-tailed lemurs (e_g, ), female bonobos in the study had higher plasma androstenedione levels than male bonobos.
