SUMMARY
The authors assessed the age of cigarette smoking initiation and its associated factors among adolescents aged 13-15 years in 144 countries/territories (hereafter "countries"), using the most recent data collected in the GYTS from 2010- 20. The authors also determined the trend in the average age of cigarette smoking initiation among adolescents in 148 countries from 1999 to 2020. The age of initiation in childhood and adolescence also seems to matter, as starting to smoke before age 15 years approximately doubles the risk of premature death in adulthood, with starting to smoke before . . .
