SUMMARY
Protease-Activated Receptors (PAR) are a family of G- protein coupled receptors with 4 members, PAR1-4. PAR2 activation may participate in the development of allergic sensitization by inducing a deviation of the nasal/airway mucosa immune_response against a foreign innocuous antigen from the default pathway of tolerance to allergic sensitization and production of antigen-specific IgE. PAR2 activation causes relaxation of trachea preparations and protects from bronchoconstriction in_vivo through the release of PGE2 from airway epithelial_cells. The first evidence suggesting a role for PAR2 in asthma came from studies showing pro-inflammatory effects . . .
