There is a reason to consider the Ca2+ exchange processes in the nucleus, cytosol, and endoplasmic_reticulum as interconne cted and integrated processes. The main Ca2+ store is the lumen of the endoplasmic_reticulum (ER), where the Ca2+ concentration is substantially higher - 100-500 μM. Calcium sparks can modulate the plasma_membrane excitability causing hyperpolarization by activation of Ca2+-activated K . . .
