Racial differences in prevention decision making among u.s. women at high risk of breast cancer: a qualitative study

SUMMARY

    Among high-risk women, Black women are relatively less likely to be knowledgeable about personal cancer risk or prevention approaches, and less frequently use either genetic testing or enhanced surveillance routines to help manage risk. The relative use of prophylactic mastectomy, prophylactic oophorectomy, Racial differences in high-risk breast cancer decision making and chemoprevention by different groups of high-risk women suggests that Black women may also be less likely to utilize these methods of breast cancer prevention.
