Rapid antiretroviral therapy initiation following rollout of point-of-care early infant diagnosis testing, uganda, 2018–2021

HIGHLIGHTS

  • What: Despite these challenges, the study demonstrated a reduction in median time from sample collection to results return to the caregiver between pre-POC and during POC periods (28 versus 1 day). The differences may be related to the different and much smaller population in the study than the population used for the national-level data, as well as the slightly different time periods during which the evaluations were conducted. There is need to examine barriers surrounding the POC target of initiating ART on the sample collection day as the authors aim for eMTCT.
