SUMMARY

    A preprocedural ultrasound scan on its own doesn`t appear to improve the technical precision of TEP or reduce the time required to identify the thoracic epidural space when compared with the conventional technique. Although real-time ultrasound-guided TEP is technically feasible and accurate (76% first-pass success) there is a paucity of data on the technique and no randomized controlled trials comparing real-time ultrasound guidance with the conventional technique.
