Simulations are used in several ways including routine learning, rehearsals of communications skills, the practice of complex clinical situations, and introduction into a new clinical environment. The traditional methods for teaching clinical and communication skills are difficult to reflect in the clinical postings and do not transfer well to clinical practice.
