SUMMARY
In the Asia-Pacific region, more than two billion people are at risk of malaria, a vector-borne disease caused by Plasmodium spp. parasites transmitted by Anopheles spp. mosquitoes. The GMS has achieved an 88% reduction in indigenous malaria cases between 2012 and 2020, largely attributed to the scale-up of community-based case management services for malaria operated by volunteers.
