SUMMARY
A previous study successfully developed two GE rice lines containing artificial microRNA genes by silencing the rice SH4 gene, a QTL (quantitative trait locus) responsible for seed shattering in cultivated rice. Whether it is possible to edit the seed-shattering genes, including SH4, in weedy rice to develop substantially reduced seed-shattering lines remains unknown.
