Repurposing non-antifungal drugs auranofin and pentamidine in combination as fungistatic antifungal agents against c. albicans

  • who: Jiaying Lin from the Zhejiang University, China have published the Article: Repurposing non-antifungal drugs auranofin and pentamidine in combination as fungistatic antifungal agents against C. albicans, in the Journal: (JOURNAL)
  • how: Inspired by the aforementioned work which use pentamidine to potentiate the membrane permeability of traditional antibiotic the authors proposed of combining auranofin with pentamidine aiming to improve their anti-fungal activity. The results showed that the fungal surface became rough and winkled after incubation with pentamidine (1/16 u00d7 MIC) for 2 h while untreated cells revealed a smooth cell surface .
