- what: The authors show that REST supresses hypoxia-induced glucose consumption and lactate production via repression of HIF-1α. The authors demonstrate the existence of a transcriptional repressor mechanism acting on the HIF1A promoter response to prolonged hypoxia. The authors have shown that REST reduces HIF-1α expression and glycolysis in hypoxia, two promising targets for cancer therapy45.
