Pulmonary emboli (PEs) can occur in prothrombotic states and signify clotting material partially or fully blocking the pulmonary artery or one of its branches. Saddle pulmonary emboli are located at the bifurcation of the main pulmonary artery and continue to extend into both the right and left main pulmonary arteries.
