- What: Biber and Finegan selected 410 texts of written and spoken British English as the research objects and only focused on the use of adverbial marking of stance in the discourse. The study shown that authors in the humanities use shell nouns more frequently than those who in science and engineering disciplines. The study shows that the overall frequency of use by Chinese authors is lower than that of English native authors.
