Riverine cu-distribution in sediments of the jaba-kawerong river system 30 years after cease of mining at panguna/bougainville

HIGHLIGHTS

• What: The mineralogical and geochemical data obtained in this study show the abundance of Cu in surface substrates of the former Panguna mine site and the sediments of the JabaKawerong river system. The compositional data of chloritized biotite from the Panguna deposit by Ford and of this study showing Cu-concentration between 0.1 and 5.6 wt.-% CuO in chloritized biotite from the middle tailings and the Jaba delta invoke that these sheet silicates are important carriers of Cu in the entire Jaba-Kawerong river system.
