- What: The authors attempt to provide a natural language processing (NLP) account for the L2 learning of English degree expressions in L1 Chinese learners. The authors aim at understanding English degree expressions produced by first language (L1) Chinese learners from the perspective of NLP. The frequency result added new empirical evidence to the research showing that difficulty and learnability are closely associated (Eckman, 1977). The authors propose to implement the Differential Markedness Hypothesis to degree expressions.
