    Since the first case of Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) caused by the novel Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) was reported in Brazil in February 2020, more than 32.8 million confirmed COVID-19 cases have been reported in the country to the beginning of July 2022. In essence, SARS-CoV-2 self-tests are very similar to professional rapid antigen tests, albeit the former must be marketed with packaging, test items, and user instructions tailored in such a way that any lay person can self-administer them safely.
