SUMMARY
The authors use the term ontological unpacking to refer to a process of ontological analysis that reveals the ontological conceptual model (a conceptual model in its latter function) behind an information structuring conceptual model (the conceptual model in its former function). In the following, the authors provide an overview of the meaning of ontology, ontological unpacking, and semantic interoperability, extending the well-accepted FAIR principles by considering ontological foundations, when applied to a Viral Conceptual Model.
