Sepsis-related coagulopathy treatment based on the disseminated intravascular coagulation diagnostic criteria: a post hoc analysis of a prospective multicenter observational study

HIGHLIGHTS

SUMMARY

A meta-analysis has indicated the important concept regarding anticoagulant therapy for sepsis; the optimal population benefiting from anticoagulant therapy consists of patients with sepsis and DIC, rather than those with sepsis only. A recent study proposed that patient selection for anticoagulant therapy should be based on disease severity as indicated by the Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) or Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation (APACHE) II scores, in addition to "sepsis with DIC". Previous studies have demonstrated that PT values are strongly correlated with SOFA scores and that mortality in patients with sepsis . . .
