SUMMARY
The liver plays a central role in the metabolism of proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, fatty_acids and amino_acids involved in both anabolic and catabolic processes, and chronic hepatopathies results in important metabolic imbalances. It has been recognized that during human cirrhosis, serum concentrations of branched-chain amino_acids (BCAAs), such as leucine, isoleucine, and valine, are decreased, whereas those of aromatic amino_acids (AAAs), such as phenylalanine and tyrosine, are increased.
