Sex-specific ventricular morphology, function, and tissue characteristics in arterial hypertension: a magnetic resonance study of the hamburg city health cohort

HIGHLIGHTS

  • What: The aim of this study was to analyze the effect of sex, AHT, and the interaction between these variables on CMR measurements of cardiac structure and function, multiparametric mapping and late gadolinium enhancement (LGE). Compared to most previous literature, this analysis investigates asymptomatic subjects with predominantly mild or treated AHT, representing the majority of AHT patients in Germany . This study provides added value to current knowledge, as it portrays sex-specific changes in structural and functional CMR parameters as a response to AHT.
