HIGHLIGHTS
- What: The aim of this research is to introduce a unique example of vernacular architecture in Iran and delve into its deeper sociocultural context while addressing the mutual influence of the residents` socio-cultural behaviours and beliefs on the spatial organisation and the architectural characteristics of the fort. This research attempts to briefly introduce the structure of the fortress of Kharanaq, an understanding of its inhabitants‘ life, their cultural values and social ideologies and their impact on the formation of the special shape of the fort.
