Somatic genetic rescue of a germline ribosome assembly defect

HIGHLIGHTS

  • who: Shengjiang Tan from the (UNIVERSITY) have published the paper: Somatic genetic rescue of a germline ribosome assembly defect, in the Journal: NATURE COMMUNICATIONS NATURE COMMUNICATIONS
  • what: By combining functional studies in yeast, Dictyostelium discoideum, and Drosophila melanogaster with structural analysis and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations, the authors show that acquired somatic EIF6 missense mutations that reduce eIF6 dosage or eIF6 binding to the 60S subunit bypass SBDS deficiency by rescuing the defects in ribosome assembly and global protein synthesis. The authors focused on the eIF6 amino_acids (N66, G69, R96, N106, D112, L133, and V135 . . .
