Study on mechanism of action of total avonoids from cortex juglandis mandshuricae against alcoholic liver disease based on “ gut-liver axis ”

HIGHLIGHTS

SUMMARY

Alcohol also modulates the composition of the gut microbiota by decreasing concentrations of most short-chain fatty_acids (SCFAs); other than acetic acid, a metabolite of ethanol, the levels of all other SCFAs are lowered in the gut following alcohol intake (Xie et_al, 2013). Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPARα) is a nuclear hormone_receptor that plays an important role in lipid metabolism by regulating the expression of many genes involved in the transport and oxidation of free fatty_acids. Alcohol inhibits fatty_acid oxidation in part by suppressing the transcriptional activity and DNA binding capacity of PPAR . . .
