SUMMARY

    Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) remains the leading cause of mortality worldwide. Recent registries indicate a growing population of patients suffering an acute coronary syndrome (ACS) without any SMuRF (SMuRF-less patients). Pro-inflammatory and atherosclerosis biomarkers, such as lipoprotein (a), C-reactive protein and fibrinogen, have been shown to have higher specificity in predicting worse prognosis of AMI in SMuRF-less patients, as compared to patients with SMuRFs, but no studies have been conducted to investigate their role as predictors of SMuRF-less AMIs.
