SUMMARY
Hypertension is one of the most common cardiovascular risk factors encountered, and its prevalence continues to rise in the face of primary prevention measures. To hypertension, diabetes_mellitus, dyslipidemia, smoking and chronic kidney disease are involved in pathophysiological processes at the level of the vascular wall that over time lead to decreased compliance and elasticity due to changes in the extracellular matrix components at that level.
